Don’t Write When You Have Nothing to Say

Don’t force yourself to pump out content

Articles on how to be successful on this platform are a dime a dozen these days. Every writer has their own blueprint for reaching online writing success. And while many of their tips can be extremely helpful, there is one piece of advice that I see everywhere, and it grinds my gears to no end:

Publish every day. No matter what.

Umm, no.

I’ve read one too many articles that say the recipe for writing success is to continue writing and publishing content. Some have even said we should publish content at least once a day, even if it sucks. Sheesh.

Don’t get me wrong. This is sound advice for people who are trying to establish a daily writing habit. What better way to strengthen your writing muscles than to practice every day?

My problem starts when I’m told this is the best way to reach writing success.

It isn’t.

The truth is that, when you’re uninspired and have nothing to say, forcing yourself to pump out content for the sake of meeting an internal quota is a surefire way to turn your craft into a chore and repel readers in the process.
